How do you remove clutter from a real estate photo?

Upload the interior and pick how far to go: clutter only, which keeps every sofa and table where it is; furniture, which leaves the fixtures; or everything, which returns an empty room. All three re-render the whole frame. To take out one object and leave the rest of the photo untouched, brush it instead. 1 credit per variant, from $0.45 per photo.

Two different tools wearing one name

Emptying a room and removing one thing are not the same operation

This page's three presets rebuild the whole photograph. The brush does not — a painted stroke is composited back over your original, so every pixel you did not paint stays bit for bit what you uploaded. Which one you want decides which page you should be on.

01A preset is a re-render
"Empty the room" has to reconstruct floor, walls and skirting behind everything it takes out, so the model redraws the frame. That is the correct trade for an empty room and the wrong one for a bin.
02A brush stroke is a composite
Paint over one object and the model's edit is clipped back to exactly that region. Outside it, the file is unchanged — not approximated, not upscaled back. Geometry, not a prompt.
03Clutter keeps the furniture
The clutter preset is told by name to leave sofas, chairs, tables, beds, shelves, cabinets, rugs and curtains alone and take only the mess.
04Nothing structural comes out
Radiators, sockets, switches, vents, built-in cabinetry and anything plumbed stay. A room with the boiler removed is not a photograph of the room you are selling.

An emptied or decluttered room is a digitally altered image under California's AB 723 — the statute carves out exposure and colour work, not the removal of what a room contains. The listing needs a conspicuous notice and a link to the unaltered original. See the disclosure rules by state

How it works

  1. 01

    Drop the interior photo

Any JPG, PNG or WEBP up to 15 MB. A wide shot with the floor and at least two walls visible reconstructs better than a tight corner.

  2. 02

    Pick how far to go

Clutter, furniture, or everything. If the answer is "just that one thing", use the brush instead — it is the same route and a different guarantee.

  3. 03

    Compare it against your original

A preset result is a re-render, so read the room's fixtures against the upload before you use it. Quality control re-runs a broken result once at no cost.

The four ways to take something out

Three presets on this page and a brush on the object remover. They differ in what they touch, which matters more than what they remove.

ModeThe four ways to take something outWhat it touches
ClutterPapers, boxes, cables, laundry, toys, dishes, countertop mess. The whole frame is re-rendered. Furniture, rugs and curtains are named as things to keep.
FurnitureSofas, chairs, tables, beds, shelves, rugs, curtains, lamps, plants, wall art.The whole frame. Fixtures and built-ins stay.
EverythingdefaultEvery movable and loose item. Returns a bare room. The whole frame, including the surfaces reconstructed behind what left.
Brushobject removerOne object you paint over — a car, a bin, a sign, a person.Only the painted region. Every other pixel stays bit for bit your original.

Every mode costs the same: 1 credit per variant, and the variant picker opens on 2. A free account comes with three credits and no card. Signed out, the tool does not run at all — the studio shows a sign-up wall rather than spending a GPU on an anonymous request.

Questions about decluttering

Terms, limits and what the tool will not do.

Is the AI declutter tool free?

Not without an account, and not unlimited. A free account takes no card and comes with 3 credits. A run costs 1 credit per variant and the picker opens on 2, so those three cover one run at the default plus a single-variant one. After those, credits work out to $0.45 per photo depending on pack size, they never expire, and there is no subscription to keep. Signed out, the tool does not run — the request is refused before it reaches a GPU.

Should I use declutter or the object remover?

Declutter if you want the room changed — tidied, unfurnished, or emptied. The object remover if you want one thing gone and everything else left exactly as photographed. That is not a stylistic difference: a preset re-renders the whole frame, while a painted stroke is composited back over your original so every unpainted pixel is unchanged. For a single car on a driveway, the brush is strictly better.

What is the difference between the three presets?

Clutter removes mess and personal items and is told by name to leave the furniture, rugs and curtains alone. Furniture removes the movable furnishings but keeps fixtures. Everything is the default and returns a bare room. All three reconstruct the floor and walls behind whatever they take out.

Will it remove the radiator or the kitchen units?

It should not. Fixtures, built-in cabinetry, radiators, sockets, switches, vents and anything plumbed are meant to stay, because a photo of a room without its heating is not a photo of the room you are selling. If a fixture does disappear, that is worth reporting rather than working around.

Does the result keep my photo's resolution?

For the presets, the model returns roughly one megapixel and the result is upscaled to your source's long edge, so the file matches what you uploaded but the detail is reconstructed. For the brush, only the painted region comes from the model and the rest of the file is your original at full resolution.

Do I have to disclose a decluttered photo on the listing?

In California, yes. AB 723 covers images that change what a property appears to contain, and carves out only lighting, exposure, white balance, colour correction and sharpening. Removing furniture or clutter is not in that carve-out. The rule requires a conspicuous notice next to the image and a link to the unaltered original. Other states vary — our disclosure reference tracks what is in force where.

How long does it take?

Usually 20 to 40 seconds, and longer when the model provider is busy. Closing the tab does not lose the run or the credit — the result is written to your project when it lands.

Which formats and sizes are supported?

JPG, PNG and WEBP up to 15 MB. Uploads are normalised to 2048 px on the long edge before the model sees them.

Are my property photos private?

Uploads are processed over encrypted connections and are not used to train any model. They are stored with your project so you can come back to the result, and you can delete a project and its images from the studio at any time.

Disclosing altered photos

Since January 1, 2026, California's AB 723 has required a visible disclosure and a link to the original photo on digitally altered listing images. Edits that change how a property looks are covered; routine colour and exposure fixes are not.

We checked 297 California listings whose own captions admit the photos were altered. 99% carry no publicly reachable link to the original image, which is the half of the statute almost everyone misses.

The room is empty. Now furnish it.

An empty room photographs badly and shows badly — buyers cannot judge scale without something to judge it against. Virtual staging puts furniture back in, in the style you pick.
