AI sky replacement for exterior listing photos

Can you replace the sky in a real estate photo automatically?

Yes. Upload the exterior shot and the sky is replaced with a bright blue one with soft cumulus, with no masking by hand — usually in 20 to 40 seconds. There is one sky rather than a library, because a listing photo needs a plausible sky, not a dramatic one. 1 credit per variant, from $0.44–$0.60 per photo.

What a new sky does not fix

The reason most swapped skies still look swapped

A sky is only half of the weather in a photograph. The other half is on the building, and this tool does not touch it — which is a limit worth knowing before you publish, and the single most useful thing we can tell you about the category.

01The shadows still say midday
Hard shadows under a warm, low sun is a combination that does not occur. If the original was shot at noon, keep the sky bright rather than golden.
02The facade keeps its own exposure
A house metered for an overcast day stays dull under a blue sky. Run the photo enhancer afterwards; that is the tool that lifts the building.
03Reflections are not tracked
Glass, water and wet tarmac still hold whatever they were reflecting. On a photo with a lot of glazing, check the windows before you use it.
04There is no sky library
One sky: bright blue, soft cumulus, warm light. Forty dramatic skies is how a listing ends up advertising a sunset it never had.

A replaced sky is a digitally altered image under California's AB 723 — the statute carves out exposure, white balance and sharpening, and swapping the sky is none of those. The listing needs a conspicuous notice and a link to the unaltered original. See the disclosure rules by state

How it works

  1. 01

    Drop the exterior photo

Any JPG, PNG or WEBP up to 15 MB. The sky has to be visible in the frame — there needs to be a sky to replace.

  2. 02

    Pick how many takes

1 to 3 variants, one credit each, opening on 2. They differ in cloud placement, so a second take is worth having when the roofline is complicated.

  3. 03

    Compare it against your original

Read the roofline and the windows against the upload before you use it. Quality control re-runs a broken result once at no cost.

When it works, and when it does not

The source photo decides most of the result. These four cases cover nearly every exterior anyone uploads.

Your skyWhen it works, and when it does notWhat you get
Flat overcastbest caseAn even grey sky with the roofline clearly separated from it.The case this is built for. Clean edge, believable result.
Blown to whiteThe sky is pure white with no detail, often with haloing around branches.Usually works. Bare winter branches against white are where the edge shows.
Blue but dullThere is already a sky; it is just hazy or washed out.Works, but the photo enhancer is often the better tool — it lifts the whole frame for the same credit.
No sky in frameA tight facade crop, an interior, a courtyard.Nothing to replace. The model will invent one, which is why the result looks wrong.

Every case costs the same: 1 credit per variant, and the variant picker opens on 2. A free account comes with three credits and no card. Signed out, the tool does not run at all — the studio shows a sign-up wall rather than spending a GPU on an anonymous request.

Questions about sky replacement

Terms, limits and what the tool will not do.

Is the AI sky replacement tool free?

Not without an account, and not unlimited. A free account takes no card and comes with 3 credits. A run costs 1 credit per variant and the picker opens on 2, so those three cover one run at the default plus a single-variant one. After those, credits work out to $0.44–$0.60 per photo depending on pack size, they never expire, and there is no subscription to keep. Signed out, the tool does not run — the request is refused before it reaches a GPU.

Which real estate photo editors offer blue-sky replacement?

Most of the established retouching services do it as part of a per-image edit, usually at a few dollars an image with a next-day turnaround, and the desktop editors — Photoshop and Luminar — ship a sky library you drive by hand. What is different here is the shape of the transaction rather than the effect: it runs in about half a minute, it costs a credit, and there is no minimum order and no account manager. If you need a hundred images matched to one another, a human retoucher is still the better answer.

Can I choose which sky?

No, and that is deliberate. There is one sky — bright blue with soft white cumulus and warm light — because a listing photo needs a sky that could plausibly have been there. A library of forty dramatic skies is how listings end up advertising a sunset the property never had. The variants differ in cloud placement, not in weather.

Does it change anything except the sky?

In intent, no: the prompt names the building, roof, windows, doors, trees, landscaping, driveway and ground as things to keep. In practice the model re-renders the whole frame rather than painting into a mask, so the result is a new rendering of your photo rather than your photo with one region swapped. Compare it against your original before you publish it — that is what the slider on this page is for.

Why does my result still look edited?

Almost always the shadows. The sky says one time of day and the light on the building says another, and the eye catches the mismatch before it notices the sky. A hard shadow under a warm low sun is a combination that does not occur in nature. The other two causes are an underexposed facade, which the photo enhancer fixes, and window reflections that still hold the old sky.

Do I have to disclose a replaced sky on the listing?

In California, yes. AB 723 covers images that change how a property is depicted and carves out only lighting, exposure, white balance, colour correction and sharpening. A replaced sky is not in that carve-out. The rule requires a conspicuous notice next to the image and a link to the unaltered original. Other states vary — our disclosure reference tracks what is in force where.

How long does it take?

Usually 20 to 40 seconds, and longer when the model provider is busy. Closing the tab does not lose the run or the credit — the result is written to your project when it lands.

What resolution do I get back?

The model returns roughly one megapixel and the result is upscaled to your source's long edge, so the file matches what you uploaded. Uploads are normalised to 2048 px on the long edge first, which is above what MLS platforms and portals ask for.

Are my property photos private?

Uploads are processed over encrypted connections and are not used to train any model. They are stored with your project so you can come back to the result, and you can delete a project and its images from the studio at any time.

Disclosing altered photos

Since January 1, 2026, California's AB 723 has required a visible disclosure and a link to the original photo on digitally altered listing images. Edits that change how a property looks are covered; routine colour and exposure fixes are not.

We checked 297 California listings whose own captions admit the photos were altered. 99% carry no publicly reachable link to the original image, which is the half of the statute almost everyone misses.

The sky is fixed. Is the house?

A new sky does not lift the building underneath it. The photo enhancer corrects the exposure, colour and noise on the same shot, and day-to-dusk turns it into a twilight photo with the windows lit.
