Why Virtually Stage a Kitchen?
Empty rooms look cold and small. Help buyers visualize their future home with virtual staging.
Physical staging: $1,500 median
NAR puts the median cost of a staging service at $1,500 per home, and $500 when the sellers' agent stages it themselves. Virtual staging is priced per photo instead.

49% saw a faster sale
In NAR's 2025 survey, 49% of sellers' agents said staging reduced the time a home spent on the market, and 29% reported a 1% to 10% increase in the dollar value offered.
23% of buyers' agents name it the single most important room to stage.
NAR surveyed home staging in general. The survey does not separate virtual staging from physically furnished staging.
Source: National Association of REALTORS®, 2025 Profile of Home Staging (May 6, 2025). Surveyed February 2025. NAR invited a random sample of 49,806 active Realtors and received 1,266 usable responses, a 2.5% response rate.
Kitchen staging is styling, not furnishing
The kitchen is the one room where there is very little to add. Cabinets, worktops, splashback and appliances are all architecture, so a render works on the dressing instead: stools pulled up to an island, a bowl of fruit or a board on the counter, a runner on the floor, greenery, and a laid table where there is a dining nook. The point is to show the surfaces in use rather than to fill the room.
What staging will not do to a kitchen
It will not reface cabinet doors, change the worktop material, retile the splashback or swap the appliances. Every one of those is a renovation change, and asking staging for it is the most common reason a kitchen render disappoints.
Shooting an empty kitchen
Shoot down the run, not across it
A frame that looks along the length of the units shows depth and worktop space. Square-on to a wall of cabinets gives a flat photo that styling cannot rescue.
Fit the whole island in
If there is an island, it is the thing stools get placed at. A cropped island leaves the seating half out of frame.
Watch what the appliances reflect
Stainless steel holds whatever is in front of it, and reflections are kept as photographed. If you are visible in the oven door, you stay visible after staging. Move, or clear it afterwards with the object remover.

Disclosing altered photos
Since January 1, 2026, California's AB 723 has required a visible disclosure and a link to the original photo on digitally altered listing images. Edits that change how a property looks are covered; routine colour and exposure fixes are not.
We checked 297 California listings whose own captions admit the photos were altered. 99% carry no publicly reachable link to the original image, which is the half of the statute almost everyone misses.

Kitchen staging questions
Can virtual staging change my kitchen cabinets?
No. Cabinets, worktops and appliances are part of the room's architecture and are preserved exactly. Changing them is renovation work, which is a separate tool.
What does kitchen staging actually add?
Bar stools, counter styling, a rug or runner, plants, and place settings in a dining nook. It makes an empty kitchen look lived in without touching the fittings a buyer is judging.
Is it worth staging a kitchen at all?
Less often than the other rooms, and it is worth being honest about that. An empty kitchen photographs perfectly well on its own. Styling earns its place when there is an island or a nook that otherwise reads as dead space.
